Vandoren Jumbo Java Ebonite for Tenor
Vandoren Jumbo Java Mouthpiece for alto.

Jumbo Javas are made with a somewhat different design agenda than most ebonite pieces. The Jumbo is an ebonite which sounds like a metal 'piece- Bright, loud & with plenty of 'kick' to them. Despite this they are an extremely easy to play- and feel quite unusually freeblowing. For power and projection these are in the same league as metal 'pieces such as Dukoff or Berg Larsen (plus, like other high baffle pieces, they are great for altissimo playing). They're not just screamers however, with a little practice it is quite possible to 'tame' them and get a full, warm tone from their sax. An ideal choice for blues, rock, fusion or the extrovert end of the big band spectrum.

"I tried this with the Vandoren Optimum ligature and the Rovner 'Eddie Daniels' lig with Vandoren V16 reeds. It delivered a very full sound with plenty of power. I was mightily impressed with the clarity of the tone, and this was particularly evident with the Optimum lig. The tone was not at all bright which I found surprising as the notes that come from Vandoren suggests that this mouthpiece is bright. The tone was warm and mellow, ideal for smooth jazz and more laid-back playing styles. Tone production was easy to control and it had a good dynamic range. We are delighted to add the T45 to the range in stock and I am sure that there will be many people who would find this an ideal upgrade for those in search of a jazz-playing ebonite mouthpiece" (saxes used Selmer Series II and Yanagisawa T991).
